Mullen meets CJCSC, COAS: regional security discussed

US Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee Admiral Mike Mullen arrived here on Saturday from New Delhi and met separately with his Pakistani counterpart General Tariq Majid and Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani. According to US embassy spokesman Mullen's visit to Pakistan is part of the regular bilateral consultations between the U.S. and Pakistan. Admiral Mullen last visited Pakistan on June 26, 2010. On the other hand military sources told that Admiral Mullen met with Gen Tariq Majid and Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and discussed matters related to regional security, Pak-US defense cooperation, outcome of strategic dialogue, current situation in Afghanistan, meetings with Indian army officials and options of new offensive against Taliban. Sources told that both Gen Tariq Majid and Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani emphasized the need to further consolidate the existing Pak-US defense cooperation and welcomed the US assistance and cooperation in enhancing the capabilities of the Pak armed forces. Tribal situation also figured in the talks.
