Pemra members updated on notice to TV

ISLAMABAD - A three-member committee of Pakistan Electric Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) in a meeting here on Thursday explained to the Members of the authority about the complaint against Geo TV and the subsequent show cause notice issued by the Authority.
Sources in the Ministry of Information said that it was a routine meeting of the 11 Members of the Authority, which became important because of the situation emerged after the attack on TV anchorperson Hamid Mir and subsequent allegations put on ISI by Geo TV.
“The meeting was presided by secretary information who is ex-officio member of the Pemra and acting chairman. Secretary interior, being ex-officio member, was also present in the meeting,” the sources said. PEMRA had again asked the administration of Geo TV to tone down its transmissions and respect defense institution of the country, the sources maintained.
The three-member committee, which has been looking into the reference sent to Pemra by the Ministry of Defence against the Geo TV, consists of Pervez Rahtore, Israr Ahmed Abbasi and Syed Ismail Shah.
Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid also telephoned chairman PEMRA and regretted the suspension of private channel’s transmission in some areas of the country.
The Pemra chairman assured him that he would take steps for the restoration of the broadcast of the Geo News.
