RAWALPINDI An independent candidate alleged rigging during by-polls of NA-55 and boycotted the election on Wednesday. An independent candidate Kashif Dutt alleged rigging during by elections of NA-55 and boycotted the election process. He along with scores of his supporters also staged a protest demonstration outside Govt Islamia High School No 4 and chanted slogans against PML-N and ECP. The situation got tense at Polling Station Number 239 (Series 303) at Govt Islamia High School for Boys No.4 Liaquat Bagh when the polling agents barred a person namely Muhammad Shafique son of Muhammad Raffique from casting his vote. The voter immediately came out from the polling station and started making hue and cry. While talking to this scribe, Muhammad Shafique alleged that he came here to cast his vote for Awami Muslim League (AML) candidate Sheikh Rashid Ahmed but the polling agents of PML-N had already put his vote in ballot box which was a clear rigging. He, while showing his National Identity Card (NIC) and shouting against N-league, told that he was the resident of House No G-531 DVS, Mohallah College Road and was deprived of his democratic right. When this scribe went inside the polling station to probe the matter, it was revealed that the name and fathers name of the voter was correct in voters list whereas his NIC Number 21253357292 and address G-378-A DAV-3 was contrary to the address as was told by Shafique earlier. A polling agent deputed at the polling station was of view that the vote of Shafique was registered in Series 301 and to be polled at another polling station Series No 301 but he tried to cast his vote at this polling station against Series No 303 which was to rigging. Meanwhile, a large number of police contingents reached at the place and arrested the person and brought him to Police Station (PS) City. On the occasion, tight security arrangements were made to avert any untoward incident and to provide security to the candidates and voters. Secretary ECP Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan, CPO Rao Muhammad Iqbal Khan, SSP Operations Yasin Farooq, DCO Imdad Ullah Bosal, MNAs Hanif Abbasi and Malik Abrar Ahmed also visited various polling stations and monitored the election process.
