RAWALPINDI PPPs voters seemed confused and divided while using their right of vote in the NA-55 by-polls on Wednesday. City organisations of Peoples Party supported Jamaat-i-Islami candidate Dr Kamal while another group directed by Presidency asserted their effort in favour of Sheikh Rashid. However, majority of Peoples Party voters did not use their right of vote. It would be not out of place to say that support of PML-Q, Governor of Punjab, and ex-President Gen (Retd) Musharraf became main reasons behind AMLs defeat in NA-55. It is pertinent to mention here that AML even failed to deploy its polling agents at various polling stations. Despite the fact that a large number of male voters of all political parities remained busy in polling process, a low and disappointing female voters turn over was witnessed during the by-election of NA-55. This scribe visited various areas of city including Katarian, Khayaban, Phagwari, Pirwadahi and Satellite Town polling stations and observed that majority of female voters remained aloof from the whole election process. By midday turn over in different polling stations was observed to be only around 16 percent. Security arrangements remained satisfactory. Polling agents of all political parties were questioned on security arrangements, rigging and any interference by Punjab government. In reply peaceful and smooth polling was declared by all of them.
