'Teachers play vital role in ensuring clean society

RAWALPINDI - Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister and MPA Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal said that teachers could play vital and vibrant role in ensuring neat and clean society by educating people. No any society could manage healthy and neat atmosphere without the commitment and involvement of its people despite of having an infrastructure for sanitation, he added. He expressed these views while addressing the concluding session of a seminar held in connection with International Year of Sanitation here the other day. Water Supply and Sanitation, Planning and Development Department Chief Chaudhry Karamat Ali, EDO (Municipal Services) Imtiaz Malik, DO (Special Education) Mrs Nusrat Najeeb, Govt Special Education Centre Principal Jamal Abdul Nasir, heads of educational institutions and colleges, professors and teachers from districts Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock also attended the seminar. Chaudhry Sarfraz said that teachers could well disseminate information and message to their students about proper sanitation ways and methods and ensuring cleanliness at homes and also in the society. He said that unless every person in the society played role for neat and clean environment, one could not fight against pollution, unhygienic atmosphere and dangerous diseases. He said that government departments, concerning to the sanitation and environment, have their own responsibilities in this respect, but without the commitment and support of the people no society could be made free of waste, pollution and diseases. While giving detailed briefing, Planning and Development Department Chaudhry Karamat Ali informed that 145 filtration plants have, so far, been installed in Punjab. and the provincial government has recently approved a mega project involving an amount of Rs 14 billion under which a water filtration plant would be installed in each union council throughout the province. The government has also allocated an amount of more than Rs 10 million for projects of sanitation, he added. The participants of the seminar including professors and teachers of educational institutions and colleges assured to play their positive role for creating awareness about sanitation. and cleanliness problems besides floating various proposals in this respect. The Principal of Govt Special Education Centre, Murree, Jamal Abdul Nasir and EDO (Municipal Services) Imtiaz Malik also expressed steps of the government departments for improving sanitation system in the district. They also paid a vote of thank to the participants for their deep interest and concrete proposals and discussion in the seminar.
