ISLAMABAD (APP)- Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has planned to deploy regular workforce at its medical camps of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by inducting employees for purpose on contract hiring basis. According to hospital sources, the decision was taken in order to ensure standardization of services and smooth functioning of medical camp and field hospital till return of IDPs. They said such personnel will be deployed at health facilities in IDPs camps after providing basic initial training to them at PIMS in their relevant field. They said the hospital has already adopted the policy of deploying doctors and nurses belonging to the affected areas to ensure better communication with the patients and attendants. Executive Director PIMS Dr. Altaf Hussain said that PIMS has established a 20-bed field hospital at Jalozai IDPs camp where so far 3380 patients have been attended by the doctors. He said out of total 1077 female while 1923 male patients have been provided medical facilities at the camp. He added that the Institute has provided medicines and surgical supplies of worth Rs. 4 million so far. He said 10 teams of doctors, nurses and paramedics have been formed that visit daily on rotation while two specialists also visit daily to medical camp. He said each team has two female and three male doctors, three nurses, seven paramedics and 12 supporting staff, adding, an average 500 patients visit medical camp daily. Dr. Altaf Hussain said facilities being provided at Jalozai field hospital included OPD, pharmacy for free medicines, minor operation theatre for minor to major operations, ambulance service for referrals and free food for admitted patients.He said for basic laboratory tests including ECG, ultrasound a diagnostic facility has also been provided while a mobile mother and child health care unit has also been set up with the support of UNFPA.
