An Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) on Monday handed over Kanwal, the wife of gunman Sikandar who held Islamabad hostage for over five and a half hours to police on two-day physical remand.
The police produced Kanwal in the Anti-Terrorist Court in Islamabad where it requested for three days more physical remand of the lady. However, the judge granted only two days to police to complete the investigation. She would remain in police custody and will be produced again on August 28.
It should be mentioned that earlier, Kanwal was handed over to police for seven days last week.
Police said they have yet to complete the investigation. Officers in their statement informed the court that Kanwal was well aware of her husband’s plot and was fully cooperating with him during the dramatic standoff with police at Jinnah Avenue in Islamabad’s Blue Area.
Officials claimed that she has been misleading the police in the investigation.
Islamabad police had registered a case against the gunman at Kohsar police station under Section 6 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Sikandar’s wife Kanwal was also named in the FIR.
The gunman was accompanied by his wife and two children who are now in police custody.
Sikandar is admitted in Islamabad’s PIMS hospital where his condition is said to be improving.
