AAG asked to inquire whereabouts of missing person

RAWALPINDI - A Division Bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Wednesday directed an Assistant Advocate General (AAG) to inquire whereabouts of a missing person who helped in the recovery of some Chinese engineers from the custody of Swat Taliban. The DB comprising Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha and Justice Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah directed the AAG to get comprehensive response regarding the whereabouts of Sabz Ali, resident of Peshawar, after he was detained by personnel of intelligence agency with the help of Airport Police from the house of a Chinese citizen on February 4 this year. The court also directed the AAG to convey the detailed report on March 4 when the case would be taken up again. Musa Khan filed a habeas corpus petition against the illegal detention of his father Muhammad Ayub, his friend Sabz Ali and his driver Aurangzeb. In his petition, he made the SHO Airport Police, IG Punjab, DG ISI, DG MI and ministry of defence respondents through his lawyer Bahlol Khattak and maintained that the three persons were taken into custody from the house of Khurram Jiangs in Rawalpindi. According to the petitioner, the three men held meeting with Swat Taliban and succeeded to release some Chinese engineers on the request of Jiangs when he said that the government had failed in recovering the kidnapped Chinese. The lawyer of the petitioner, however, told the court that Muhammad Ayub and his driver were produced in an Anti Terrorism Curt in Peshawar by police, saying they were supporters of Taliban. The court granted bail to the two men but the whereabouts of Sabz Ali were still unknown. Separately, the bench reserved its decision on the bail application of the owner of Jaddah Town, a huge housing society in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Syed Makhdoom Gillani, the accused in his bail application, has denied the charges leveled against him by NAB in a reference against him. He had said that he had enough land for selling aimed to compensate the members of society. He also said no member of the housing scheme had complained to NAB against him and sought bail as he had been in jail for the last 27 months. NAB on the other hand alleged that there were more than 4000 members to be compensated by the accused but he had not have enough land to refund the investments of the members.
