Hamid Mir to be provided effective security: Malik

Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Monday visited the house of senior TV anchorperson Hamid Mir here in Islamabad and committed to provide him effective and elaborate security.
It is to mention that explosive material, detonator and battery packed in a bag and affixed beneath the vehicle of Hamid Mir was found outside his house at E-11/3.
During his visit, the minister said that security personnel from Police and FC are being provided to Hamid Mir while an Inspector of his own choice will be also deputed for his security.
He announced to constitute `fact finding committee' including Magistrate, police officials and two journalists which will probe this incident.
Rehman Malik said that powerful bomb of high intensity was affixed which could have damaged a lot. He prayed to Almighty Allah for Hamid Mir's long life and to save him from any trouble.
He said that some security alerts were issued as there had been threats from a group of Miran Shah to attack journalists.
To a question, the minister said that blocking mobile phone service on particular days of Muharram remained very effective and no incident of killing occurred in Balochistan and Karachi.      
He termed the mediamen as `guardian of Pakistan' and said that every possible cooperation would be made to secure their lives as they perform their duties in tough situations.
Hamid Mir thanked the minister for visiting him and asked him for immediate action against those elements targeting journalists in Balochistan, KPK and Karachi.
Hamid Mir also expressed his full confidence on Islamabad police and thanked its officials for quick response and defusing the explosive material.
