President Mamnoon Hussain has urged academic institutions to play their role in nation building and meeting the multifaceted challenges adding that universities should offer solutions to the some of the major challenges.
Addressing the ninth convocation of National Defense University in Islamabad today‚ he said the higher academic institutions particularly universities should promote moral values‚ ideological cohesion and offer solutions to the some of the major challenges faced by the country today including poverty‚ unemployment‚ low growth rate and particularly menace of terrorism‚ sectarianism and corruption.
He called upon the youth to become effective part of national policy making through their research publications. He said education is the only hope to lead our society towards socio-economic progress and prosperity.
Reaffirming the government's commitment for promotion of education‚ Mamnoon Hussain said the government aims to enhance literacy rate and is especially focusing on the technical education in order to help the youth stand on their own feet.
He said the government is equally committed to the promotion of primary‚ secondary and higher education. It is our sincere effort to provide equal education facilities to all. He said special emphasis is being given to the neglected areas particularly Balochistan‚ Gilgit Baltistan and FATA.
Acknowledging the services of National Defense University in higher education and research work‚ the President said this institution has assumed the role of a national think thank and is playing an important role in promotion of leadership.
He appreciated the National Defense University for successfully conducting workshops on 'Afghanistan 2015 and Beyond' and national security saying the input provided by the university helps the policy makers taking decisions on issues of national importance.
Earlier‚ the President gave away gold medals and certificates to the graduating students. One of the recipients of gold medal in M.Phil was Radio Pakistan's News Editor Lutuf ur Rehman.
