'TheNation committed to investigative journalism'

ISLAMABAD - Editor TheNation Dr Shireen M Mazari, Tuesday, hosted a reception in the honour of delegates of Federal Executive Council (FEC) of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ) here at Islamabad Club. Besides delegates of FEC of PFUJ the reception ceremony was also attended by the Federal Secretary Information Mansoor Sohail, Press Information Officer Ch Rasheed, Resident Editor Jang Hanif Khalid, President National Press Club Afzal Butt, Secretary National Press Club, Asim Rana, Staff Reporters of TheNation and other senior journalists. Addressing the gathering, Editor TheNation Dr Shireen Mazari said that there was dire need to promote trends of investigative journalism. TheNation with its young dedicated reporters is working on the same lines, she informed. She lauded the role of journalists bodies for the uplift of journalists. Government must facilitate the journalists in their professional duties, as exploitation of journalism was a main constraint in the development of professional journalism in the country. She emphasised that Government must play its due role for the uplift of journalists. Shaukat Pervez President PFUJ said that it was high time to address the plight of journalists. He said that to end the exploitation of journalists was main aim of PFUJ. Owners should implement the 'Seventh Wage Award in their respective media organisations, he demanded. He appreciated the Editor TheNation for hosting such an exemplary receptions. He said that such interaction would be helpful to address the miseries of journalists. Federal Secretary Information Mansoor Sohail said that the government was fully aware of the fact that without giving freedom of expression to media, it could not flourish accordingly, adding that it was also responsibility of the media to highlight the social issues rather than focusing one or some specific political issues. For the capacity building purpose, Government would organise training workshops for journalists, he said. Secretary Information pledged that government would not create any hurdle in provision of information and would facilitate the journalists. Senior Journalist, Maqbool Malik moderated the proceedings.
