ISLAMABAD (APP)-People living in middle class areas of Islamabad over the last few weeks have been complaining of increase in street crimes. Many cases of mobile and cash snatching at gun point, car and motorbike theft are reported to Aabpara police station while many other such crimes remain un-reported. A large number of such cases from sectors G-6/2, G-7/2 and G-7/3 are reported frequently while drug peddlers have also become active mostly luring youngsters to drugs. According to the police record, a number of cases of purse snatching from women and mobile theft have also been reported from posh sectors of F-6 and F-7.One of the major reasons for these crimes are unemployment amongst youth and lack of opportunities for entertainment and other constructive activities.The gravity of the situation was brought to the notice of Interior Minister Rehman Malik in the National Assembly by Sardar Muhammad Mushtaq Khan MNA through a written question. The minister enlisted a number of steps that the Islamabad police was taking to check these crimes. Islamabad Capital Territory Police is performing its duties round the clock to nab the criminals and create a sense of security among the citizens of Islamabad, the Minister for Interior said on Monday.The minister said that proactive policing strategies i.e. Safe Home Scheme and Car Safety Plan are being implemented in all the police stations. Special attention is being given to minimise the crime rate by adopting effective preventive measures, the minister said. He said the arrested accused persons and under trial prisoners are monitored regularly and record of their regular visitors is maintained. All those persons who are released from jail are also kept under observations and random raids at the residences of previous record holders are conducted, he added. The minister said that proper 'Nakabandi at all exit and entry points of Islamabad are being held randomly, adding that all the SHOs, SDPOs have been strictly instructed to deploy their staff at all inlets and outlets to check the suspicious vehicles. Decoy Plans are being launched to apprehended the criminals red handed, involved in various offences and information regarding the culprits involved in these crimes is being exchanged with the adjourning districts and provinces, he said. The minister said that a separate K-9 Unit has been established under Rescue-15, Pointer and Trackers sniffing dogs are available in these units which are being used to trace out culprits involved in heinous crimes.For quick response and providing technical and scientific aid at the crime scene a fully equipped vehicle, with trained officers and officials have been placed at the disposal of rescue-15 for collecting evidence at the spot, he said.The minister said that all the supervisory officers have been strictly directed to control crime in their respective areas, through random checking.He said two cases under Control of Narcotics Substance Act (CNSA) were registered in the area of G-7/2 and SDPOs, SHOs have been strictly directed to keep a watch in these sectors to nab the criminals.
