ISLAMABAD - A senior leader of ruling PML-N Senator Jaffar Iqbal on Wednesday came up with a proposal of creating a slot of deputy prime minister which should be offered to Imran Khan to monitor the judicial commission probe into the rigging allegation.
The out of blue proposal came when the PML-N senator wrote a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wherein he had given the proposal of carving out a slot of deputy prime minister to break the impasse.
Political analysts were according special significance to the letter and termed it a ruling party proposal coming indirectly from a party leader to gauge the reaction of PTI leadership on it.
However, Senator Jaffar said that it was purely his own idea and he came up with the same with the aim to help resolve the current imbroglio. Interestingly, the leadership of PTI had rejected it while there was no official word from the party on it.
As per the proposal given by Jaffar, he suggested amendment in rules of business to create a post of deputy prime minister and Imran Khan would be offered the slot or some of his nominee should be installed on this newly created post to monitor the inquiry into the rigging charges through a judicial commission.
Referring to the demands of Dr Tahirul Qadri, he said that a referendum should be held in the country to seek public opinion whether they want to change the system as demanded by PAT.
He also suggested that the law should take its own course with regard to Model Town tragedy.
