ISLAMABAD - Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong has termed the reservations of certain countries over Chinese nuclear cooperation with Pakistan as baseless and said it is within the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) framework.
Talking to journalists here on Friday‚ he said objective of Chinese cooperation with Pakistan in nuclear sector was to address Pakistan’s energy crisis. He said this cooperation would help boost Pakistan’s economy.
Regarding Pakistan-China Economic Corridor‚ the ambassador said it was a long-term project‚ however‚ both the countries were determined to enjoy the early fruits of it between five and seven years. He said China would prefer to carry out its trade through Gawadar Port. He said construction of motorways‚ Karakorum Highway and development of other infrastructure was significant for early completion of the corridor.
Sun Weidong said Pakistan and China enjoyed long-lasting and cordial ties and both the countries had a key role to move forward on the economic corridor project.
