President Asif Ali Zardari has signed 20th Constitutional Amendment Bill on Tuesday. The 20th Amendment was passed by the National Assembly with a consensus on Feb 14 and was passed by the Senate with clear majority on Feb 21 providing an independent Election Commission and a neutral interim government set-up to oversee polls. In the Senate, two JI senators cast dissenting votes. The Amend also deals with the procedure to appoint interim government in order to ensure transparency in elections.
