ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court (SC) has issued notices to 9 public sector universities for not abiding by rules and regulations with reference to education in law and sought reply from them till May, 5.
The notices have been issued on the petition filed by Pakistan Bar Council (PBC). These are Bahaud Din Zikria University, Multan; Islamia University, Bahawalpur; Peshawar University, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan; Balochistan University, Karachi University, University of Sindh, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur; and Wafaqi Urdu University.
A 3-member bench of SC headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani took up for hearing the case with reference to law colleges Monday.
The CJP told the PBC that Justice (Retd) Zahid Aslam is not in a good health condition and he is not finding time due to his engagements then who should be included in the committee to run the matters. Counsel for PBC prayed that one among Justice (r) Khalilur Rehman and Justice (r) Mian Shakir Ullah Jan be appointed for this purpose and he himself will talk to Nasir Aslam in this regard. The court remarked: "The court itself will consider this matter and will decide to whom this assignment be entrusted.”
The counsel informed the court that 18 universities were operating in public sector in the country at present. Nine universities have given no reply with regard to rules and regulations to PBC despite several reminders while four universities have furnished information which is incomplete. Therefore notice be issued to them.
