Sardar Attique elected new AJK PM

Lawmakers in Pakistani-administered Kashmir on Thursday elected a new leader, days after their outgoing premier resigned ahead of a no-confidence vote, officials said. Sardar Attique Ahmad was endorsed as prime minister with the votes of 39 members of the 49-strong local legislative assembly. Ten members abstained. Sardar Attique is elected leader of the house after securing 39 votes with none against, deputy speaker Mehrunnisa said. A former premier, Attique was removed from office in January 2009 in a no-confidence vote amid allegations of corruption and nepotism.
