ISLAMABAD – More than 550 graduates and postgraduates of the university were awarded degrees in the 7th Convocation of Riphah International University (RIU) held here on Saturday.
Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, Patron-in-Chief International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi, was the chief guest while Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector University of Management and Technology, Lahore, was the guest of honor.
More than 550 graduates and post graduates from various faculties including health and medical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, management sciences, engineering and applied sciences, computing, social sciences and humanities, basic sciences and media sciences were awarded degrees.
Thirteen Zulfiqar Gold Medals and 16 Chancellor’s Gold Medals were awarded to the graduates and postgraduates for obtaining top positions in the examinations and securing distinction for their best performance in the academic field in various disciplines.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rahman congratulating the graduating students said Pakistan needs highly educated youth with a commitment to transform society into a knowledge-based society. “Higher educational institutions have to play a vital role in social development and educational transformation of the people. Riphah International University is making a great contribution in this regard.”
Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, in his speech, said public as well as private sector has to play a responsible role in building of future of knowledge economies. Pro-Chancellor of Riphah International University, Hassan Muhammad Khan, in his remarks informed about future plans of the university and said, Ras-al-Khaima, College of Dental Sciences, has already started functioning in UAE and university is now planning to establish its campus in Mauritius.
He also informed about the finalisation of the plan for construction of new campus of the University in Islamabad. He said an agreement has been signed for the purpose with a consortium of world-renowned architectural companies led by John R Harris and Partners (JHRP), which has a vast experience in planning and design of large scale projects all over the world.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad, in his address, said we are living in an age of globalisation with global challenges in strategic areas of economy, education, security and culture. He said Riphah International University has tried at a humble level to prepare graduates with knowledge, skills and leadership qualities to meet these challenges effectively and successfully. New logo of Riphah International University was also launched at the convocation.
