ISLAMABAD - The PPP-led coalition government has stepped up its efforts to win over the support of main opposition party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) on 20th Constitutional Amendment and in this connection a team comprising central leaders of PPP would be holding meeting with Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan here on Monday.
Sources in the PPP informed that the team, which would be led by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah, comprised Syed Naveed Qamar, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Qamar Zaman Kaira.
They would be discussing the set of issues with the Leader of Opposition Ch Nisar Ali Khan and would also come up with certain assurances on redressing of the genuine concerns of the opposition regarding the Election Commission of Pakistan and passage of the National Accountability Commission from the Parliament.
It is pertinent to mention here that Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Ch. Nisar Ali Khan came up with stance that they would not extend any support to the ruling alliance either on 20th Constitutional Amendment or the redefining of the country's foreign policy in the light of the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security unless and until the government would fulfill the opposition demands of appointment of a neutral Chief Election Commissioner, resolution of the issues relating to the unanimously nominated eight members of the Election Commission from provinces and passage of the National Accountability Commission Bill with all the amendments proposed by the opposition duly incorporated in it. It is pertinent to mention here that a couple of days back Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah had held meeting with PML-N Parliamentarians Sh. Aftab Ahmad and Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan Abbassi to seek the opposition's support.
