Collective efforts urged against drug abuse

ISLAMABAD - Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Traffic) Muhammad Zubair Hashmi called for collective efforts by citizens and law enforcement agencies to get rid of the society's ills like drug addiction and trafficking. He stated this during music concert held at open air theater organised by Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) in collaboration with Sunny trust international is connection with week against illicit Trafficking and Drug Abuse. The concert was attended by SP (Traffic) Ashfaq Ahmad Khan, Dr Munawar Fayyaz Sunny, members of ITP Citizen's Liaison Committee, male, female and children. The renowned singers performed during the concert and achieved the public admiration. The performers also presented different jokes during the function. The SSP traffic said that the drug problem had been growing and had become a "serious threat." Every person should accomplish his responsibility in a decent manner and rectify his attitude by sticking to his premier norms so that a positive change could be inculcated in the society in the present troublesome situation, he added. The SSP termed the drug addiction as an ailment as well as curse and stressed the parents to keep check on the activities of their young children.   He said that the Police being the custodian is being ready to give helping hand to the parents but the prime responsibility lies with them who have the real liability for upbringing their children. The SSP (Traffic) Muhammad Zubair Hashmi said that ITP is committed to ensure safety to the lives of the people on roads and contribute in the social welfare programmes on humanitarian basis. "Depression and anxiety is increasing among the members of the society and only way is that every person should consider his responsibility instead of escaping it," the SSP said. Patience and tolerance must to inculcated in one's personality to counter the challenges in the life, he added. The SSP said that purpose of this programme is to create awareness among the people about narcotics hazards to life. Head of the Sunny Trust Dr. Munawar Fiaz Sunny appealed to the philanthropists as well as common people to come forward and joint hands in this noble cause which may bring relief in the lives of the people. He said that a drug addict disturbs his family members, his neighbors, friends and several other people, "One addressing the habits of the drug addicts performs a great service to mankind and humanity,"he maintained. Islam has also strictly prohibited the use of drugs and forbidden performing prayers after taking the drug. "One can imagine how big this curse is, which increases distances of the person from his Creator," He said adding that each religion has prohibited to use narcotics. Dr Munawar Sunny shared his experiences with the participants and difficulties being faced during this journey for mankind.
