ISLAMABAD - Barrister Jawaid Iqbal Jafree, counsel and a close friend of Dr A Khan, will today (Thursday) appear before the Chief Justice Islamabad High Court (IHC) to press his latest plea seeking release of incarcerated national hero and country's top nuclear scientist. Earlier, Registrar of IHC has returned the habeas corpus petition of Barrister Jafree here on Wednesday with the objection that it was not maintainable. The petition was seeking restoration of Dr Khan's status as per his position in February 2003 before being detained by Musharraf regime on charges of being linked to nuclear proliferation. "Court has already given its verdict on the issue and the writ is non-maintainable", the Registrar Office has said. However, Barrister Jafree has told TheNation that he will personally appear before Chief Justice of IHC and inform him about the fresh evidence, which has given rise to the new plea. He also said that court will be requested to describe the scope of security clearance for meetings and movements of Dr Khan as all acts of police are subject to review. It was only few days ago when the IHC had dismissed the review petition of Barrister Jafree on the same issue. to move from one place to another and permit his contacts to meet him after security clearance. The court had also allowed Dr Khan to undergo medical treatment by a doctor of his own choice and gave him permission to visit library and science foundation for research. The same court order had however barred country's top nuclear scientist from speaking on the issue of nuclear non-proliferation.
