ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid Sunday said that a meeting between the leaders of Pakistan and India in New York was a step forward for the resolution of all important issues.
“It’s a good omen that the leaders of Pakistan and India are holding a meeting which will help improve the relations between the two nations,” he stated this while talking to a private television channel.
“After a long time, the leaders of the two countries are meeting with each other to remove the reservations and discuss issues held pending since long,” he said.
The minister said that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government before coming into power had clearly told the voters that the party will discuss and resolve all the matters with India through negotiations.
He said “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif holds full support of the Parliament and the people for meeting with Indian leader at an important forum to resolve the outstanding issues.”
He said that Pakistan wanted peace in the region besides good relations with all neighbouring countries including India.
Replying to a question, he said that Indian leaders could not isolate themselves from the world community by choosing the policy of confrontation.
He said that Indian leaders had many challenges like poverty, unemployment and economy, adding that all these problems could be addressed while making good relations with the international community as well as regional nations.
Pervaiz Rashid said that policy of confrontation was not the option of any country, adding that policy of cooperation was the only way to achieve success in the comity of nations besides the resolution of the problems.
He was of the view that terrorism was a common issue of the regional countries including India and Pakistan.
He said that the issue could be addressed with collective efforts and support of governments of the two neighbouring countries.
The Minister said that India and Pakistan should fight terrorism with collective efforts, adding that discussion should be continued to achieve progress and prosperity of the region.
