KARACHI- PRESS RELEASE - Pakistan Navy continued to utilise all its resources to provide relief to the earthquake victims of Balochistan.
According to a press release by PN Directorate of Public Relations Monday, all efforts are being made for swift provision of relief and rescue support to the quake-hit people. In addition to the 4,000 kg relief goods already dispatched via PN Fokker and helicopters, approximately 4,500 kg of relief goods have been dispatched through two additional sorties of PN Fokker during last two days. The relief goods contained dry ration, medicines, potable water and more than 200 family-size tents.
PN helicopters are still carrying out rescue operations and pulling out dead and injured people of the quake-hit areas. The injured are transported to the PN hospitals at Ormara and Karachi for better medical treatment.
The PN teams are working in the quake-hit areas to assess the possibility of more aftershocks and vulnerability of fishermen and mariners of the area due to the emergence of new islets in Gwadar West Bay and in sea area of Ras Basol. Main shipping lanes are well clear from these islets; however, a warning has been issued for safety of fishermen and mariners, the statement added.
These islets are mainly composed of mud and it is expected that they will erode in monsoon due to strong waves. In view of the large magnitude of the earthquake and its aftershocks, the possibility of the emergence of similar kind of islets along the Makran coast cannot be ruled out, it said.
