KARACHI - MQM leader and former ports and shipping minister, Babar Ghauri ruled out possibility of 19,000 missing containers and his alleged involvement in this connection.
Talking to media at Quaid-e-Azam International Airport here Saturday, he said he do want to say nothing about the container missing case as the DG Rangers spokesman had already denied that no such report was presented in the Supreme Court during the Karachi law and order case. He termed the issue as a conspiracy against the MQM. Citing the statement of ANP’s Bashir Bilour, he said, “I am not saying the Punjabi media has been projecting null and void stories against some specific political segments of the country, but it is clear that there are some elements who have been found hatching conspiracies against the MQM and its leadership.” He said that pressing the people against the wall would produce awful results for the country. Ghauri said, “I want to make it clear that Port and Shipping Ministry’s responsibility is to manage the administrative activities including permitting ships at the port while the FBR and other agencies are there to deal with the matter of clearance of the containers. He also informed that various agencies including Pakistan Naval Intelligence, ISI, IB and others were also present to monitor the clearance process of all the containers.
He added it has been reported that many containers got missing on their way to Afghanistan from various parts of the country. He appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to from a commission to probe into the matter.
