Gojra victims funeral offered; 50 detained

Funerals of the Gojra riots victims were offered while the situation of the city remained tense here Sunday, report said on Sunday. Rangers earlier today had taken control of Gojra after deadliest inter-faith violence gripped the city and claimed eight innocent lives. At least eight people, including four women and two children, were burnt to death and dozens others have received critical injuries when riots erupted in Gojra between Christian community and Muslims over alleged sacrilegious of Quran. On Sunday, heavy contingents of police and rangers took control of the city and started patrolling on the streets. Near 50 suspected rioters have also been detained including a local leader of a banned sectarian outfit. Meanwhile, Senior Minister Punjab Raja Riaz and provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah visited the affected areas of the city and monitored the rehabilitation and security arrangements.
