Police get bullet-proof vests, helmets

KARACHI - US Consul General William Martin on Wednesday pledged to provide more equipment worth $1m to the Sindh police at a ceremony held here to hand over 1000 bullet proof vests and 1000 helmets worth $0.7m to the police at CPO office here.Later, Sindh IGP Mushtaq Shah and Brain Nichols, Principle Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Narcotics and International Law Enforcement in Washington DC signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard. Mr Martin said the signing of a MOU was a clear fact to growing partnership between the government of United States and the Sindh Police. He hoped that the Sindh police could meet the extraordinary challenges in Karachi and across the Sindh through better equipment and modern training. In addition to the equipment, the US government will be provided additional support designed to enhance the infrastructure, capabilities and training to the Sindh police, he added.
Moreover, he pointed out that the peace and security in the metropolis would open many economic and commercial opportunities and attract much needed foreign investment.Earlier, IGP Mushtaq Shah lauded the efforts of the US Consul General to protect police and make them more effective to encounter the stiff challenges. He said that the equipment would definitely play a vital role in enhancing the performance of Sindh police.
