KARACHI - Law enforcers claimed to have killed three suspects in separate encounters here on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a police intelligence officer was shot dead in Orangi Town. Police said the victim sub-inspector was identified as Niaz Abdul Majeed, 42. The incident took place in Raees Amrohi Colony in Orangi Town. Police officials said the victim was on his intelligence duty when the incident occurred. They said he was standing near his home when at least two armed men riding a motorcycle came and shot him dead. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. No case was registered.
The security forces also claimed to have arrested over a dozen suspects during the targeted operation in the City.
Police killed an alleged criminal who was later identified as ANP District East president and wounded two others near Sohrab Goth. The victim was killed in an alleged encounter near Sohrab Goth and was later identified as Shah Kalam Mehsud.
The Awami National Party claimed his affiliation. It said the victim was the worker of the Pakhtun Students Federation. ANP senior leader Bashir Jan said the targeted operation was beyond the imagination because the militants and the police were killing the ANP men.
Mehsud had done MBA from Federal Urdu University and was serving as PkSF president for District East. Following the extrajudicial murder of the PSF worker, ANP workers and relatives staged protest at Super Highway. They also shouted slogans against the police. Protesters said the police raided the house and arrested him. Later they killed him within few minutes at Super Highway in a fake encounter. On the other hand, Sacchal Police Station SHO Shaukat Raza was not available for comments when contacted.
A gangster associated with Ghaffar Zikri gang was killed during a joint operation conducted by rangers and police in Zikri Mohallah, Lyari. Police said the gangsters launched an attack on the law enforcers when they arrived in the area. As result, an encounter took place and the alleged gangster identified as Sameer Baloch was killed. Security agencies also claimed to have recovered a huge cache of weapons from Zikri Mohallah during the operation. Another alleged criminal was killed in an encounter with the police in a joint raid conducted by Ibrahim Hyderi and Sukkhan police in Labour Square area of Landhi. The victim was identified as Siddique Commando aka Lal. His two companions were managed to escape from the scene. Sukkhan SHO Rao Rafiq said the accused was involved in a number of cases and targeted killings of the policemen.
Meanwhile, as many as one dozen suspects were rounded up during a search operation in Sohrab Goth area. Rangers sources said they launched targeted operation in Sohrab Goth’s Al-Azam Square - the area notorious about the presence of militants of a banned outfit. The operation was launched by the rangers on a tip-off. The entire locality was cordoned off during the operation. The markets and shops were also shut down and no one was allowed to enter and exit. During the door-to-door operation, the rangers personnel rounded up a number of suspects, however, majority of them were later released on non-guilty. Rangers spokesperson said 12 suspects were apprehended.
In another encounter, Memon Goth Police claimed to have arrested three members of a dacoit gang after an exchange of fire. Three suspects Amin Khaskheli, Altaf Hussain and Tahir Khaskheli were arrested along with three pistols. SHO Naeem Khan said their gang was involved in a number of cases of robberies in Gadap City and Memon Goth areas.
Meanwhile, Crime Investigation Department claimed to have apprehended a target killer. CID Investigations in-charge Mazhar Mashwani said accused Mustafa Rehman was affiliated with the Ustad Taju group of Lyari gangsters. He was wanted to the police in at least four cases of target killings and five cases of extortion.
