KARACHI- The Sindh government has finalised its preparations for the special meeting of the federal cabinet which meets tomorrow in Karachi to decide about the action plan for restoring peace in the port city.
The meeting, to be chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, would mull different options including depoliticisation of Karachi police and launching of a deweaponisation campaign. Sources said the moot is most likely to decide targeted operation through involving all provincial and federal security agencies against the criminals, as already stated by Federal Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali.
Nisar had said that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah would act as a captain and lead the operation. The CM and Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad have been specially invited to participate in the federal cabinet meeting.
On Sunday, Sindh Chief Secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Aijaz chaired a meeting, which was attended by Home Secretary Mumtaz Shah, IGP Shahid Nadeem Baloch and other officers of the government and law enforcement agencies. The meeting reviewed the law and order situation and finalised the briefings and presentation for the federal cabinet meeting.
Sources said that the law enforcement agencies of the Sindh government shared the list of the criminals who are being sheltered by different political parties. They said the LEAs will present the names of such alleged criminals in the federal cabinet meeting to take decision in this regard.
Sources said that the Sindh government has directed the IGP to prepare the list of the police officers, SHOs and those in upper ranks, who have political affiliation as the federal government is likely to flush off such officers to depoliticise the police. The federal government has already declared that the federal cabinet will come up with a clear decision to take on the criminals and miscreants in the city.
