PPP leader Shams Bihari shot dead

KARACHI - A local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Shamsul Hassan alias Shams Bihari, was shot dead by unidentified armed men at his residence in Marine Drive Apartment in Boat Basin police station limits, Clifton, here on Thursday. SHO Boat Basin police Khalid Jameel said that a 45-year-old Shamsul Hassan s/o Ibn-e-Hassan was going to drop his daughter at a school in Boat Basin area when two unidentified gunmen opened fire on him, leaving him critical injured. The gunmen fled the scene after swift operation. The SHO said although his daughter was with him but she miraculously escaped from firing. Shamsul Hassan was the father of four children and did some private business, the SHO said, adding soon after receiving information about the incident we rushed to the scene but the family and area people shifted the injured PPP leader to a private hospital for first aid and then took him to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Center where he breathed his last, SHO added. However, MLO at Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Center said the victim received four bullets in his body and succumbed to the injuries before reaching this hospital. The tension gripped areas around Bangla and Fauji Bazaars in Orangi Town soon after the news of PPP leaders death was flashed. The victim was a leader of Organi Town where a large number of police and rangers has been deployed to avoid any untoward incident. SHO Pakistan Bazaar police Fasih Zaman said that after soon after the news of PPP leaders death, the businessmen started closing shops and markets, while some unidentified gunmen also opened aerial fire. However, no untoward incident has yet been reported in view of the PPP leaders killing.
