KARACHI – Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) Managing Director Misbahuddin Farid has said that the 2,500 million greater Karachi water supply scheme, K-IV, would be inaugurated in the mid of December, for which preparations have been completed. He said this on Sunday while presiding over a meeting held at KWSB headquarters. K-IV Project Director Mashkur ul Hasnain, Chief Engineer Saleem Siddiqui and other KWSB officers were also present in the meeting.The managing director said the water board started preparations for the K-IV project right after the completion of K-III project. In this regard, he said, President Asif Ali Zaradari, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Minister Local Bodies Agha Siraj Durrani and members of the Sindh Assembly had cooperated fully with the water board for the project.Due to these combine efforts, a sum of Rs 2,500 million funds was approved for the K-IV project, which would provide 260 million additional gallons of water to the citizens of Karachi, added Farid. He said that tenders for the project had already been issued and the inauguration of the project by President Zardari was expected in the mid of December. The project would be completed in three steps and upon completion of the third step, 650 gallons of additional water would be provided to the citizens. The K-IV project would span on 124 kilometres and after the completion of Phase-I, daily supply to the citizens of Karachi would reach up to 910 million gallons. The KWSB has invited international firms to come forward and take part in the tenders, so that the project could be completed on time. The MD also praised the efforts of former city mayor now Senator Syed Mustafa Kamal, former-vice mayor Senator Nasreen Jalil and former members of the City Council whose personal interest and tireless efforts gave a foundation to the project. Faird meanwhile directed the project director, all the officers of KWSB to give their best to the project in order to provide relief to the citizens.
