KARACHI- Three people, including two MQM workers were shot dead in separate violent incidents here on Tuesday.
Police said that some armed men riding a motorbike shot dead an activist of the MQM at Noman Avenue within the jurisdiction of Shahrah-e-Faisal police station. The assailants managed to flee from the scene. Another worker of the MQM was shot dead at Orangi Town within the jurisdiction of Pakistan Bazaar police station. Shahzad Luqman and his friend Shakeel were standing near Quba Mosque when gunmen ridding on a motorbike resorted indiscriminate firing on them, killing Shahzad on the spot while injuring his friend Shakeel. The injured was hurried to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
On the other side, Jackson police found a bullet-riddled body from ICI Bridge. The body was shifted to morgue for identification after autopsy at Civil Hospital Karachi.
Meanwhile, at least two people were killed and several others wounded in fresh wave of violence in Lyari on Tuesday. Routine and commercial activities remained suspended due to heavy firing, hand-grenade and rocket attacks in Lyari and its surrounding areas. Even heavy contingent of police and Rangers deployed in the areas could not ensure law and order.
About 35-year-old youth Usman Ghani was shot dead by unidentified armed men in Agra Taj Colony, Lyari. His body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy. Police said the deceased, who belonged to Katchi community, was killed by Lyari gangsters during a clash.
Similarly, Yaqoob Katchi, was shot dead in Hungorabad area of Lyari. However, Mushtaq Ahmed, 38, was wounded in a firing incident by unidentified persons in Bihar Colony area.
Meanwhile, about six people sustained injuries in a hand-grenade attack in Mandara Mohalla, Lyari. The victims were taken to CHK for medical treatment.
Katchi Rabita Committee leader Hussain Katchi claimed that the victims were associated with KRC. He said that gangsters continued spraying bullets, firing rockets and hurling hand-grenades in Katchi-dominated areas.
