KARACHI - Four people including three political workers were shot dead in various violent incidents here on Tuesday.
A middle-aged man who recently embraced Islam Muslim was shot dead in a mysterious fire in Clifton police precincts.
Victim Raja Chawla, 56, was on his way after withdrawing Rs7,00,000 from a private bank at Zamzama when gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire at his car.
Initially police believed the incident occurred over offering resistance during robbery but investigators later established the fact that motive behind the murder was not snatching.
Police said the victim was living in Bath Island, Clifton and had converted to Islam from Hinduism about 25 years back. He was running his own business. There were some unconfirmed reports that he was receiving threats from unidentified persons over refusal to pay extortion as he had already paid the extortion money twice.
Separately, a contract employee of the K-Electric was shot dead and two more contract employees were wounded in a targeted attack in Baldia Town. The victim was identified as Shabbir, 50, while the injured as Ashfaq and Obaid. They were shifted to Civil Hospital for autopsy.
SHO Tahir Ayub said the victim and the injured were the private employees of the K-Electric. They were on duty when unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire on their vehicle. He said the victim was affiliated with Sunni Tehreek. His son was also the ST’s sector in-charge for Baldia Town and was gunned down in the same manner a year ago.
Similarly, a worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead in Korangi area. The victim was identified as Amanullah aka Raja, 45. Police officials said the incident took place when he was going home after dropping his children to the nearby school. Two armed men riding a motorcycle shot him at least five times, killing him on the spot. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. He was associated with MQM’s Unit-76 and apparently killed over political grounds.
In another similar incident, a general store owner was shot dead when he was sitting at his general store in Hassan Colony in Golimar area. The victim was identified as Adeel Abbas, 40. He was also affiliated with the MQM. SHO Arif Razzak said two armed men riding a motorcycle shot him dead when he was sitting at his shop. Further investigation was underway.

Six policemen were locked up over negligence during duty hours on Tuesday.
The policemen were deployed for security duty at a protest held by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in District East area.
Police sources said the police high ups found them absent during a surprise visit to the protest site. They started their search and the negligent cops were found at a nearby teashop.
The police highs detained all the six police personnel at a police station in Ferozabad to punish them for showing negligence during duty hours. The policemen were later released after giving them warning.
