KARACHI – The Jamaat-e-Islami on Tuesday came down hard on Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed, accusing him of pursuing a discriminatory attitude towards paramedics working in rural areas in the province. Speaking to a Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association delegation, led by its chief Niaz Hussain Bhutto, at Idara-e Noor-e Haq, JI Karachi chief Muhammad Hussain Mahenti called on the MQM minister to play a pivotal role to address grievances of the doctors and paramedics of Sindh rural areas. He urged the health minister to accept their “just” demands forthwith. The PPSA delegation, which comprised provincial General Secretary Muhammad Sharif Palari, Deputy Secretary Raja Rafiq Ahmed, Vice-Chairman Abdul Ghaffar Memon and President Karachi chapter Nazeer Abbasi, complained to the JI leader that they had been allegedly tortured for raising voice for their rights and suppressed with might by the government. The delegates added that although they were serving the ailing humanity in rural areas, the Health Department completely ignored them. They also said the health minister failed to resolve their issues. Mahenti assured them that the JI would support them and would take up the matter at all forums. He demanded the government to immediately introduce service structure for paramedics of rural areas. Crack down by commissioner on food sellers: Commissioner Roshan Ali Sheikh on Tuesday ordered the concerned authorities to start crackdown against those selling sub-standard food items and at higher rates than those approved by the Government and to punish them harshly.He was presiding over a meeting ensuring the sale of food items at approved rates. The meeting was also attended by Additional Commissioner Rubina Asif, Deputy Commissioner Central Dr Saif-ur-Rehman. The Commissioner said that those selling sub-standard and adulterer food items are the enemies of the nation. They were playing havoc with the health of the public besides violating the law by selling them at higher rates.He said the action was taken to provide relief to general public during Ramzan. He said that the prices of food items had been fixed by July 15.
