KARACHI - Security has been beefed up in the City after the threats of possible terrorism here. According to report, due to the frequent threats of terrorism, intelligence agencies have warned to make proper vigilance of the market areas, sensitive installations and religious scholars, mosques and Imam Barghas. It is pertinent to mention here that police have set up their security camps in various City markets where people usually come for Eid shopping and the markets remained open till late night especially during the last 15 days of Ramazan. Inspector General of Police Sindh, Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak also directed the police officers to increase security arrangements of Ulemas and religious scholars and congregations of Namaz-e-Taraveeh here on Thursday. Khattak had issued the directives after the murder attempt on Federal Minister of Religious Affairs, Hamid Saeed Kazmi at Islamabad. He directed that police should enhance patrolling and snap checking at all important and sensitive places including shopping centres, bus stops and enter and exit points of the City. Snap checking at all important areas should be enhanced while routine patrolling and motorcycles vigilance should be beefed up to avoid any untoward incident, he added. IGP asked the regional police officers of Hyderabad, Sukkur and CCPO Karachi to make foolproof strategic plan with the assistance of CID, special branch and other intelligence agencies, so that the province could be saved from any terrorist activity. Police and other law enforcement agencies should work with mutual consultation and make sure to avoid any harm on the occasion of Eid. A police officer on condition of anonymity told The Nation that threats of terrorism are remain present as number of terrorists are still present in Karachi. He added that recent killing of religious leaders and activists especially those affiliated with an outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan have also enhanced the chances of sectarian violence. Khattak added that intelligence agencies have frequently been warned about the possible threats of terrorism in the markets and sensitive places therefore security has been beefed up on the occasion of Eid. Recently arrested terrorists groups affiliated with defunct Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan was a clear sign shown the grip of the terrorists in the City and the weaponry recovered from their possession was an evident prove that terrorists have a plan to sabotage the peace of the City.
