KARACHI - At least 14 people, including a police ASI lost their lives in various incidents of violence here on Tuesday.
ASI Shamshad Ahmed was on his way to home after withdrawing cash from a private bank when two armed men riding a motorcycle shot him dead in Orangi Town. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. An MQM worker was shot dead in an act of target killing in Orangi Town. The deceased, identified as 28-year-old Imran Khalil, was sitting at his shop when two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire, killing him on the spot.
A 30-year-old Zaheer Abbas was killed on sectarian grounds by armed men at Jauhar Complex. Gulistan-e-Jauhar police said the deceased, an NADRA employee, was standing near his home when armed motorcyclists shot him dead.
In another incident, a shopkeeper identified as Ejaz was targeted by some assailants when he was sitting at his shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. He were hurried to a nearby hospital but succumbed to injuries on the way.
A local Masjid cleric was shot dead near Guru Mandir Soldier Bazaar police said the deceased, identified as 32-year-old Siraj Jamroz, was attacked by some armed motorcyclists who shot him dead and managed to flee from the scene.
Meanwhile, a suspected gangster identified as Javed Hussain Baloch was shot dead in Baldia Town. Madina Colony police said the deceased was sitting outside his residence when armed assailants targeted him and managed to flee from the spot.
Abdul Hameed, a car driver, was shot dead by armed men near Ziauddin Hospital in Clifton. Boat Basin police said the victim’s car was fired at the attackers when he visited the area to pick his owner’s son from an educational institution.
Separately, at least four armed outlaws riding on two motorcycles sprayed bullets on two men identified as Usman Kutchi and Riaz in Macchar Colony. Consequently, Usman died on the spot while Riaz sustained severe injuries. Police said the victims were the residents of Lyari and had opted for living in Macchar Colony area following the Lyari unrest.
A youth identified as Zahid Baloch was found dead at Jahanabad area in Pak Colony. Police said the deceased was killed after having been kidnapped.
An elderly man, Mohammad Tahir, was shot dead in MPR Colony in SITE area. Police said the victim was the resident of Rehmania Colony and apparently killed over personal enmity.
A youth was shot dead in Orangi Town. The victim was identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Naeem. According to initial reports, the deceased, said to be a PPP worker, was on his way when two armed men target him, killing him on the spot. His body was moved to ASH for autopsy.
In another incident, 42-year-old Rehan was shot dead by armed men near Hyderabad Colony. Jamshed Quarters police said the deceased was in his car when armed motorcyclists attacked him over unexplained reasons. A private security guard deployed at Merath Kabab House was shot dead by armed men near Guru Mandir. Police said at leas two armed men who were drunk arrived at the Kabab House and tried to flee without paying their bill. As the guard, identified as Noor Muhammad, intercepted them, they opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. In another incident, a man was found dead near from Kashti Masjid in Garden area. The body was moved to morgue for identification after medico-legal formalities completed at Civil Hospital, Karachi.
Meanwhile, Pirabad police claimed to have killed two Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan operatives in an encounter. The police said they intercepted some suspects on two motorcycles, but instead of cooperating with the police team, the motorcyclists opened indiscriminate, injuring ASI Mehboob Kalhoro. The police team also retaliated and gunned down two terrorists on the spot.
However, three of the suspects managed to escape under the cover of firing, said SHO Moeed. The bodies were shifted to morgue for identification after completing medico-legal formalities at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The injured police inspector was also taken to the ASH for medical treatment where doctors termed his condition stable.
