Qaim orders deployment of 500 cops in SITE area

KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, expressing concern over law and order situation in SITE industrial area here, on Monday ordered re-enforcement of police deployment in the area up to 500 personnel.
He warned the concerned police officers of strict legal action if they failed to ensure maintenance law and order in the SITE, where he was informed by the industrialists about increase in street crimes and kidnapping for ransom of the industrialists.
“I feel responsibility of providing security of life and property to all citizens especially the business community who are vital to economic prosperity and development of the country,” the CM remarked during an inter-active session with the members of SITE Association of Trade and Industry at the association’s office. 
He said that after getting magisterial powers, the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) could better control crimes in the city. The use of judicial powers by the Administration would prove very effective in maintaining law and order, he said.
He said that being the Chief Executive of the province, he never intervened in the postings and transfers of police officers especially in Karachi so that better results could be achieved.
Qaim said the police budget had been doubled to Rs 32 billion during last four years and new recruitment was also being made to strengthen the police network.
The Chief Minister, later, visited the deteriorating infrastructure in SITE area and assured that after announcement of the Provincial budget, the repair and up-gradation of the roads and streets there would be immediately started.
He was also accompanied by Additional DIG Police and DIGs of Karachi Police and the SHOs covering this large industrial area of the country.
SITE Association of Industry Chairman Irfan Motan, Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Investment and leading industrialist, Zubair Motiwala, Patron-in-Chief of SITE Association Siraj Kassem Teli, Chairman Pakistan Apparel Forum Muhammad Jawed Bilwani, Acting President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) apprised the Chief Minister of the problems facing the businessmen in the city especially SITE area.
