KARACHI - Bandits on Friday looted a university bus and deprived the students, on board, of valuables.
This was the third similar incident occurred in a month as earlier around 100 students of University of Karachi and Jinnah University for Women were deprived of their valuables when some armed culprits intercepted their buses at Banaras flyover and at Main University Road.
This time, at least three armed men barged into the bus of the NED University when it stopped to pick the two students up near Nadria Chowk in Nazimabad No 1. The bus was on its way from Baldia Town to the varsity, carrying around 65 male and female students when the incident happened.
The armed men later held them hostage at gunpoint and deprived them of their valuables before fleeing. They looted cash, laptops, ornaments and other stuff.
Meanwhile, an elderly man booked in a case for allegedly molesting a minor girl in New Karachi area died during treatment at the hospital here on Friday.
The accused was arrested from Khamiso Goth, New Karachi on September 29 for allegedly molesting his neighbour’s minor girl. The seven-year-old girl, daughter of a laborer Salamat, had reportedly gone to the nearby store when the incident took place. The victim had informed her family about the incident when she was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medical examination where doctors confirmed the signs of molestation.
Resident of the area, when came to know about the incident, beat the accused before handing him over to the police, said SHO Rehmatullah.
The injured accused, Chanesor, a resident of the same area, was married and had three children. He was later taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to injuries during treatment. Hospital sources said the victim was unconscious when he brought to the hospital and unable to speak or eat food.
Doctors said the victim’s two ribs were broken and had several internal injuries. He could not survive because he was the patient of asthma and unable to cope up the torture in this age. Police have registered a case against around 250 people for beating him up, however, no arrest was made in this regard.
