Hospital bombed in Karachi

KARACHI - Unknown militants bombed a physiotherapy hospital situated in Metroville area, Karachi on Saturday.
The hospital came under attack in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to the hospital management, there was no patient admitted at the hospital at the time of the blast, adding only few staffers were present and all of them remained safe in the attack. The bomb hit the roof of the hospital which collapsed it.
Following the explosion, extra contingent of law enforcers reached the site and cordoned off the area. Bomb disposal squad experts were also called at the blast site. According to BDS experts, it was a tennis ball bomb and had not contained ball bearings.
Hospital’ staffers said armed men first threw stones on the gate of the hospital before hurling the bomb, however, SHO Rana Khushi denied it when contacted. He said the armed men only threw a tennis ball bomb.
SHO Khushi said the physiotherapy hospital was associated with the Fauji Foundation and its head office is situated in the United Kingdom. The officer said the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained as the hospital management did not complain about any extortion call by anyone. Further investigation was underway. A case has been registered against unidentified persons.
ENCOUNTERS: Law enforcement agencies claimed to have gunned down two alleged target killers and a gangster in separate encounters here on Saturday.
Two suspects allegedly involved in various cases of target killings were killed during an encounter with the police in Orangi Town.
District West SSP Irfan Baloch said the culprits were involved in over 30 cases of target killings and robberies. They were intercepted during the snap-checking. They tried to escape under the cover of firing. When police retaliated, both of them killed. Their bodies were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsies. They were identified as Munna Bohra and Aslam Lamba. Cases were registered while further investigation was underway.
Separately, a notorious gangster of Lyari was killed during an encounter with the police and rangers in Lyari. The encounter took place when the law enforcers conducted a raid at the gangsters’ hideout in slaughter yard area of Baghdadi, Lyari.
The gangsters opened indiscriminate fire at the law enforcers and tried to flee. SSP Sheraz Nazeer said the police and rangers retaliated and killed one of the gangsters on the spot. The gangster’s body was taken to Civil Hospital where he was identified as Waleed Dada aka Chohta Jhengu. Weapons were also recovered from his possession.
Earlier, in the wee hours of Saturday, Lyari police claimed to have apprehended a suspect namely Shahrukh Comrade - brother-in-law of Lyari’s notorious gangster Sheraz Comrade. He was wanted to the police in attacking and killing the police personnel and extortion activities.
