KARACHI - At least two persons were killed and four others injured when two explosions took place in a rickshaw parked outside a mosque at Qasba Colony in Orangi Town Thursday.
According to police, two persons were killed and four others wounded in the blasts. The bomb disposal experts examined the site to ascertain whether the bomb was planted in the rickshaw parked outside the mosque or if the passengers on board were carrying the explosives.
SP Orangi Sajid Sadozai said that they have found a mutilated body of a man from the spot and a live hand-grenade as well. Investigators believed that it was a premature blast, carried out by an alleged suicide bomber before he could reach at his destination. However, further investigation is underway.
A senior police official confirmed the blast and said that it did not appear to be linked to protests against the arrest of MQM chief Altaf Hussain who was arrested in London on Tuesday on suspicion of money-laundering. Since then thousands of people have staged a sit-in in Karachi calling for his release, and his arrest has sparked fears of a major backlash in the port city.
In another incident, two police constables were injured in a bomb blast at Goth Palia area of Sukhan Police Station. According to SHO Rao Rafiq, constables Iftikhar and Hamza were patrolling on Dawood Jetty and Rehri Goth Road when a bomb ripped-off injuring the two constables. They were hurried to a hospital where their condition is reported to be out of danger. The BDS said that an improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the blast.
COP AMONG 3 KILLED
Three people including a cop were killed in separate incidents in Karachi on Thursday.
A police constable was shot dead in a targeted attack in Frontier Colony.
Police said the victim Ishfaq, 42, was going to Gulshan-e-Maymar police station from his home when unidentified armed riders shot him dead. Police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to the family. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
Separately, one Ghulam Abbas Naqvi, 35, was gunned down in Nazimabad No-2 area. Police said the victim was going to his workplace when unidentified assailants shot him in his head and fled. Police believed that the murder was occurred over sectarian basis. Further investigation was underway.
Earlier, Garden police have found a slaughtered body of a man from Lyari riverbed. Police shifted the body to Civil Hospital where he was identified as Anwar Khan, 30. Police said the victim’s friends, after a brawl on some issue, slaughtered him to death and managed to escape from the scene.
