Govt to counter West's negative propaganda

KARACHI - Central PPP leader Nafees Siddiqui has called upon the Sindh coalition partners to withdraw the May 12 strike call which is harmful for the economy of the country. He said it was high time for all the democratic forces to focus on pulling the country out of the current difficult situation. He said the living nations did not forget their martyrs and they remember them by highlighting their achievements in a positive manner rather than making calls for strikes which could harm not only the social harmony but also economy of the country. Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Siddiqui said that May 12 was an important milestone in the chequered democratic history of Pakistan because the day highlighted the supremacy of judiciary but observing this historic day in a negative manner would be harmful to the society in general. Nafees Siddiqui, who was flanked by MNA Nafeesa Shah and MPA Mrs. Humera Alwani, further said the country was passing through a critical phase. The Western media had already started an orchestrated campaign to tarnish the image of Pakistan while raising fears that its integrity was under threat of extremism and terrorism. He added President Asif Ali Zardari had taken a number of steps to counter the threat of terrorism and extremism and recently he appointed Foreign Liaison Committee of Karachi which would contact foreign diplomats based in Karachi and would apprise them about true picture of Pakistan. The Committee, which comprises Nafees Ahmed Siddiqui as Coordinator, Ms. Nafeesa Shah MNA Deputy Coordinator, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho MNA, Ms. Fauzia Wahab MNA, Talat Maheesar MNA, Sindh Minister Sassui Palejo, Humera Alwani MPA, Nauman Islam Shaikh MNA and Sindh Minister for Information Ms. Shazia Marri as its members, will also counter the negative propaganda of foreign media in order to improve the image of the country abroad. Siddiqui continued the Committee has held several meetings and would submit reports to President Asif Zardari. Responding to a question, Siddiqui said that had resigned from the post of provincial PPP secretary general but was still serving the party as a member of its central executive committee. Replying to an other query, he said the country was pursuing the foreign policy laid down by Qauid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
