KARACHI - Airport Security Force on Monday caught a US national who was trying to travel along with the bullets from Jinnah International Airport Karachi.
Sources said the US national was identified as Joel Cox. He was traveling from Karachi to Islamabad by flight PK-308.
During the routine search by the ASF staff, 15 bullets of 9mm pistol along with a magazine were found in his bag. The sources said after recovering of the material, the suspect was later handed over to the Airport Police for registering a case against him for possessing bullets and the magazine.
Airport police station SHO Khalid Mehmood confirmed the arrest of the US national and registration of an FIR against him. Khalid said the police had registered an FIR 65/14 under Section 23-A on the complaint of ASF against him. Further investigation was underway.
Meanwhile, a security guard was killed during an attack on a marble factory by a group of armed militants in Mianwali Colony on Monday.
Security guard Rasool Khan Mehsud was a former personnel of Frontier Constabulary who was deputed at Qaiser Marble Factory in Mianwali Colony.
Quoting the witnesses, police said a group of unidentified militants barged into the factory. Upon seeing, the watchman opened fire at them and in retaliation, the assailants hurled a locally made bomb at him when he was positioned at the rooftop of the factory.
Police added the armed men later managed to reach the rooftop and from where they threw the victim down to the floor and hurled another bomb at him and opened indiscriminate fire at him. The watchman died on the spot. The armed assailants later managed to escape while resorting to indiscriminate firing. Police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.
Pirabad SHO Fasiuz Zaman said this was the second such attack as few months ago, apparently, the same culprits had attacked the factory and one of their companions was also wounded in an exchange of fire with the victim security guard. He said the armed assailants apparently belonged to the banned militant outfit and they had no link with the factory, however, the victim was their target.
Separately, a worker of the MQM, Raza Haider was shot dead by armed motorcyclists at sanitary market in Gulbahar area. Police officials said the victim was sitting at his sanitary shop when armed motorcyclists shot him dead. He belonged to the shia community and was also associated with the MQM unit-189. Further investigation was underway.
Earlier, Gujjar Khan, 39, was shot dead inside his quarter in Miskeen Colony in Mithadar police precincts. SHO Tariq Baig said the victim was asleep at his quarter when a youth arrived and shot him dead over unexplained reasons. The victim hailed from Swat and was working as a labourer in the City.
Meanwhile, a teenager was found dead from C-1 area in Liaquatabad. The victim has yet to be identified. SHO Rizwan Patel said he was shot once in his head.
