KARACHI - A low intensity blast claimed a cop’s life and injured five others at Badar Chowk within the remits of Mominabad police station.
Some unidentified militants fixed an explosive device at a pushcart which exploded close to the police patrolling mobile at Badar Chowk, Orangi Town. Following the blast, three cops among 6 were wounded who were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where a head constable Fazal Abbas succumbed to injuries while constable Saleem and Amir and three bystanders were admitted with critical wounds. DIG Javaid Odho when contacted said that terrorists have targeted the police mobile. He added that the police mobile have also damaged completely.
Meanwhile, Sindh Inspector General Police Fayyaz Ahmed Laghari has directed for additional deployment of police personnel around the Masajid, Imambargahs and other places during Friday prayer. According to statement, he asked the DIGs to accelerate the targeted operation in their concerned areas against criminal elements, while improving intelligence sharing system and vigilance.
He directed to enhance patrolling, random snap checking on important thoroughfares and troubled areas of the metropolis. He urged the SHOs for strict security at exit and entrance points of the city through proper patrolling.
IGP further directed for additional deployment of plainclothes at shopping centres, important government/non-government buildings, markets, bazaars and sensitive installations to ensure safety of life and property of citizens.
