JI proposes CEC for voters’ verification

KARACHI - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has presented its proposals for the preparation of transparent electoral lists to Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Fakruddin G Ibrahim.In a letter, JI City chief Hussain Mehanti suggested the CEC that the door-to-door voters’ verification should be immediately started in the entire city while timings of the verification should be displayed through advertisement in print and electronic media.The JI proposal apprised that the government should announce two to three public holidays in the city including Sunday; so that most of the voters could be verified and the verification should also be continued in evening as well, so that process could be completed in a week.It further proposed that a team should get two census blocks where the number of houses is less than 100, adding that the teams should verify the number of votes from each of the houses and mark the electoral list accordingly.The letter further proposed that the CNIC should be checked during the verification and a copy of it could also be obtained.It suggested that the voters’ verification should be carried out on the pattern of 1998 census, where security personnel handed over the entire data to the verifier and should remain entire day with him.Mehanti hoped that the Election Commission could make effective strategy in the light of the following proposal in order to carry out transparent voters’ verification in the city.SOOMRO APPOINTED PRESIDING OFFICER OF LABOUR COURT-III: Abdul Ghani Soomro, District and Sessions Judge is appointed as Presiding Officer, Sindh Labour Court No III, Karachi in place of Abdul Maalik Gaddi. Abdul Maalik Gaddi, District and Sessions Judge, presently posted as Presiding Officer, Sindh Labour Court No-III Karachi is repatriated to the Sindh High Court.The decision is taken after the approval of the competent authority (Chief Minister), said a notification issued here on Monday.
