Bandit killed in shootout

OUR STAFF REPORTER
KARACHI - A police party, in a shootout near Urdu Bazaar on Thursday, killed an alleged bandit, whose family claimed it was a fake encounter. The team, which was patrolling the area, could not capture his two fleeing associates in the encounter in the wee hours of Thursday.
A band of three bandits was trying to snatch a motorcycle of a man, namely Danish, when a police patrolling team appeared on the scene. The bandits opened fire at them. As the attack was repulsed, one of the bandits was hit by a bullet. His two associates, however, vanished accelerating a motorcycle.
DSP Ali Asif said the injured bandit was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), where he succumbed to his injuries. He was later identified as Mukesh, 27, son of Achar, a resident of Lea Market. The body was handed over to the heirs.
The victim was a history-sheeter and was arrested on the charge of robbery earlier. His family members staged a protest in front of the Preedy Police Station, chanting slogans against the police team. Later, senior police officers reached the spot and assured the family of inquiry into the incident.
A case has been registered on the complaint of Danish.
