SHO booked over involvement in target killings

KARACHI - Police booked a Station House Officer of the PIB Colony police station, Karachi over his alleged involvement in the targeted killings of two workers of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat on Wednesday.  Two local leaders of the ASWJ were shot dead in Karnal Basti area near Old Sabzi Mandi on Sunday. The victims were identified as Qari Abdul Raheem, prayer leader, and his companion as Noor Zaman Shah. Their killings had sparked violence as hundreds of people blocked the Main University Road near Old Sabzi Mandi area. The protesters set tyres on fire at the road and also pelted the passing vehicles with stones. The ASWJ had accused the drug mafia in the area as well as PIB SHO Rao Zaheer for helping the drug mafia and killings its party leaders.
Following their complainant, the police have suspended the SHO Zaheer and also nominated him in the murder FIR 76/14 under Sections 302/109/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act.  DSP Nasir Lodhi confirmed the nomination of former SHO Zaheer in the murder FIR. He said the key accused Darwesh, his brother Jahanzaib, brother-in-law Noor Khan and other companions Mian Taj, Akmal and Saeedur Rehman were also nominated in the FIR.
DSP Lodhi further said all the accused had been escaped and the police were trying to make their arrests. Maqsood Raza has been posted as PIB Colony police station SHO. Further investigation was underway.
