APC blasts ‘bad governance’ over Thar tragedy

KARACHI - Thar tragedy has confirmed the ‘bad governance’ of Sindh government and other stake holders as they remained busy in organising photo shoot programmes and did not take any serious steps to avoid the worst disaster like situation in Thar.
The absence of the PPP and PML-N in the APC has confirmed their intention that they were not serious in resolving the issues through consensus.
This was observed in the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) All Parties Conference (APC) called to discuss the current issues of Sindh province especially the drought of District Tharparkar, at a local hotel here on Sunday. 
Sindh Nationalist and religious parties leaders including Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), Awami National Party (ANP), All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), Sindh United Party (SUP), Sindh National Party ( SNP), Pakistan Conservative Party (PCP), Mazdoor Kissan Party (MKP), (Jeay Sindh), Muhajir Ittehad Tehrik (MIT), Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP),  Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) and others were present on the occasion.
During the APC adopted resolutions, decided to constitute Sindh Task force with the collaboration of all stake holders in order to come up with all the issues of the Sindh especially drought of the Thar, while the conference also demanded immediate Local Bodies elections.
It also emphasised upon all the political parties to play their role for the people of Sindh.
In the inaugural speech, PML-Q General Secretary and Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said that the continuous ignorance and negligence of the Sindh provincial government has generated major issues in Sindh.
PML-Q has raised the issue of Thar in Senate and called for APC to bring all the political parties on one page but the main political party of Sindh, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) did not attend the conference.
The absence of the both parties confirms that they were not serious in resolving the issues and do not wish to build up consensus, he added.
PTI’s leader Hafizuddin advocate informed that during his visit to Mitthi, we found shortage of doctors, only one lady doctor is present for the cure of the masses.
The situation is worst then media has informed so far. The government still seems non-serious and failed to provide the basic medicines to the masses of Tharparkar, he stated.
MQM’s Deputy Parliamentary leader in Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hassan said the situation would go more worst if the government and other stakeholders abolish the rural and urban discriminations.
He pointed out that the there is prior need to urbanise entire Sindh by abolishing feudal system. Holding of the Local Bodies election in Sindh would give relief to the people of Sindh, he said.
ANP’s Wakeel Khan Sawati said during the last decades, PPP and MQM was governing the province but these parties instead of resolving the issues practiced ethnic politics which is not beneficial for the people of Sindh.
Environment of the PML-Q multiparty conference at a stage turned unpleasant, when the Jeay Sindh leader Kanwar Bhatti and Muhajir Ittihad Tehrik President Dr Saleem Hyder in their speech blamed each other for grabbing of resources of Sindh.
Haleem Adil Sheikh and other political parties leaders also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, PML-Q Mushahid Hussain Syed while talking to the media men on his arrival at Karachi airport held Sindh govt responsible for Thar tragedy and said he is visiting Sindh to bring all the political forces on page and that is the only way to chalk out the plan to resolve the issues of the country.
He further criticised PPP led provincial government and said stocks of wheat were available but the lack of contacts among the authorities had worsened the situation.
CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has accepted his negligence over the issue in the Press conference while PML-Q is thankful to electronic and print media for highlighting the Thar drought-hit situation.
On the occasion PML-Q Sindh chapter leader Haleem Adil Sheikh informed that the District Thar is presenting the picture like Somalia and Ethiopia while Child specialists and Gynecologist were not available in the hospitals.
