Karachi- Department of Food Science & Technology in the University of Karachi has announced a one-year post-graduate diploma in Food Safety and Controls. The course is announced under the trade-related technical assistance which is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNIDO, called TRTA-II program. The program has been accredited by the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland, U.K. The Chairman, Prof. Abid Hasnain, said that the admissions for the second batch will start from March 17, 2014. This program will be highly beneficial for those who are already serving food industries or are interested in food exports. The PGD-Food Safety and controls are very comprehensive and curriculum will be more effective in producing technically sound and academically qualified staff managing the exports, which will strengthen the trade capacity of Pakistan, create employment, protect consumers by improving the safety status of foods, facilitate Pakistan’s capacity to integrate into global trade and hence improve the economy. The candidates having Master and four year Bachelors degree in pure or applied sciences will be eligible for admission. However they will have to appear in a pre-entry test to be conducted by the Department.
