KARACHI - Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq has said that English medium schools will be established soon under pilot project in each taluka of Sindh to improve education standard of the government sector schools and to compete with private sector, enabling the students of Government schools to come up to the requirements of modern world.
He was presiding over a high level meeting at his Camp office here on Saturday. The Minister directed the Provincial Secretary Education to undertake all out efforts to make the project a success. “In this regard all available resources should be used in order to facilitate the students of primary schools”, he added. Pir Mazhar said that it was a fact that all higher and professional education was in English and unless the students of Government schools learned English from primary classes, they might not be able to feel comfortable in higher classes.
He directed the officials of the Education Department to depute best teachers of taluka to these would be English medium schools. Pir Mazharul Haq said that education is the fundamental right of the people of Sindh and we are trying to provide universal education to all the people of Sindh.
He said that no doubt there were certain hurdles in getting the objective but with firm determination and political will we would achieve over desired goals. The Minister said that we were following the vision of Mohtarma Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari in spreading education in every nook and corner. He hoped that establishment of English medium schools in each taluka would help motivate the parents to send their children to government schools. Pir Mazhar said the students of Government Schools are second to none in talents and they should be given proper environment and facilities to show their talent. Secretary Education Muhammad Siddique Memon, Director General Colleges, Dr Nasir Ansar, and other high officials also attended the meeting.
HRDN plants 300 Mangrove saplings near City coast: Over 80 members of the Human Resources Development Network (HRDN), along with the officials of the Sindh Forest Department planted 300 mangrove saplings on a mud flat in Jhari creek about 1.5 nautical miles from the Korangi Fish Harbour. This activity was part of the awareness campaign undertaken by the HRDN with the support of MFF, Mangroves for the Future, a regional initiative for the conservation and rehabilitation of the coastal ecosystems. The enthusiastic members of HRDN, who had especially come from different parts of the country to acquaint themselves with the coastal ecosystem, and had listened to experts during the one day seminar were briefed about the importance of the mangroves by the Inspector General of Forests, Mahmood Nasir, and Chief Conservator Sindh, Riaz Waggan.
Rafiul Haq, National Coordinator, Pakistan, of the MFF led the plantation drive and explained to them how the artificial plantation process works to increase the covered area of the mangroves to increase the bioshield against natural disasters.
He especially appreciated the contribution of Pakistan Navy, the only Force in the entire MFF region that is a member of the National Coordinating Body. Capt. Fayyaz Malik and his men were on hand with their hovercrafts to facilitate the plantation activity.
Fauzia Malik, Director of HRDN thanked MFF and the Sindh Forest department for proving awareness about the mangroves to its members, and proposed that this plantation be made an annual activity. This would be supplemented by the earlier announced declaration of extending the awareness to 1 million people within a year.
Sindh govt gave large scale promotion to doctors: The Sindh government has given large scale promotions to the doctors at the Health Department. This was stated by the spokesman of the Sindh Chief Minister here on Saturday. He strongly refuted reports appeared in a section of the press that the Chief Minister blocked the promotion of the doctors.  The spokesman said that the provincial government of Sindh has not only given large scale promotion to the doctors but also extended incentives to them in order to help provide better health facilities to the people.
However, he said that the Chief Minister has withheld the posting of senior doctors for consultation so that the senior doctors be deployed at the nearest places and there be no mismanagement in this regard. The spokesman said that the government is granting promotion to the doctors on the basis of merit, besides providing them more and more facilities so that they could perform their professional duties in a better environment and provision of better health facilities to the people be ensured.
