KARACHI - Justice (R) Wajihuddin has denounced illegal detention of thousands of innocent Pakistanis on the behest of the United States and regretted that despite the restoration of democracy in the country, none of the missing person has so far been produced before the courts. Addressing a seminar titled "Issue of Missing Persons, Political and Social Effect" held under the aegis of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi on Saturday, he said that masses reserve the right to question the elimination of corruption cases, including the Swiss case, against PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. JI central Naib Ameer Prof. Ghaffoor Ahmed, Amna Masood Junjua Chairperson Defence of Human Rights, PML-N leader Mamnoon Hussain, JI Sindh chief Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, Najeeb Ahmed President Karachi Press Club and others also addressed the seminar. Justice (R) Wajihuddin alleged that PCO judges have done their best to secure the rule of President Musharraf but the Pakistani nation would not accept the decision of restoration of deposed judges along with those of PCO judges. He said that issue of missing persons shows that there is no law in the country. Criticising the US intervention in country's internal issues, he warned Washington not to forget the defeat of Vietnam and predicted that the imperial power would also meet the fate of the USSR. Prof. Ghaffoor Ahmed said he could not even think of the Pakistan Army and other law enforcement agencies abducting their own innocent people. He said that President Musharraf was responsible for this nasty situation. He applauded the stance of PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif over the issue of restoration of deposed judges. Denouncing the role of Asif Ali Zardari, Ghaffoor Ahmed alleged that PPP Co-Chairman is playing to the tune of Musharraf. Amna Masood Junjoa said that rulers would be held accountable for hurting the sentiments of the families of missing persons. She said that rulers have released the Indian spy Kashmir Singh and arranged meeting for Sarbajeet Singh with his family but are not allowing the missing persons to meet their relatives.
