The Sindh government will hold local government (LG) elections on January 18.
Sindh government has decided to hold local bodies’ elections on 18th of next month in the province.
This was stated by Sindh minister for local bodies and information Sharjeel Memon in a statement in Karachi on Friday.
He said correct enrollment of the voters in the voter lists and arrangements of magnetic ink will be the responsibility of the election commission.
Sindh information minister said the provincial government was prepared to hold local bodies election on the scheduled date while the final decision over the LG polls was taken in a session at CM House on Friday.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) dismissed a second request by the Sindh government seeking an extension in the date for holding local bodies (LB) polls in the province.
The Sindh government repeatedly requested the ECP to hold the elections in March but the provincial government was merely disappointed after the decision.
The commission stated that the province should contact Supreme Court if they wanted a change in the schedule.
The schedule for LG polls in Sindh was also not issued since the government didn’t complete all legal procedures, according to the ECP.
A new schedule will be issued on December 13, the commission notified.
